Autosurfacer™ UV primer addresses urgent need

07-02-2023

Rising energy prices and the need to reduce carbon emissions have highlighted the need to ‘Rethink’ the way Vehicle Refinishing (VR) businesses approach sustainability.

We need to consider that very small changes to existing processes can deliver significant improvements in processing times while dramatically reducing energy consumption and costs.

Sikkens’ Autosurfacer™ UV primer addresses this urgent need to cut energy costs, energy consumption and reduce carbon.

Up to 85% in savings
In figures published by AkzoNobel using its unique CO₂eRepairCalculator tool, using Sikkens Autosurfacer™ UV versus a conventional primer, that requires spraybooth heating, results in 85% saving in energy consumption, and an82% reduction in kg/CO2.

To put these percentages into context, this equates to a possible saving of 127.750 kilowatt hours of energy, and more than € 34.000 in energy costs, over a 12-month period on a typical two panel repair. *

The figures coincide with Sikkens’ ongoing campaign urging the vehicle refinishing sector to Re-Think sustainability.

Ready within 5 minutes
Sikkens Autosurfacer™ UV is one of the fastest curing fillers in the vehicle refinishing market within five minutes and is ready to use straight from the canready-to-use with unlimited pot life. This in turn accelerates the repair process and enables bodyshops to increase their through-put. Paint usage per repair is also reduced by nearly 50% compared to conventional primers. The primer has excellent build, can be sanded right after curing and is not sensitive to contour mapping, making it the perfect filler for any repair.

The Sikkens’ CO₂ eRepairCalculator tool was developed with leading consultancy Carbon Neutral Repair. Sikkens Autosurfacer™ UV is available in selected markets worldwide.
